Human eye can see more shades of green than any other color

The protagonists finally took Malvo into custody and had him interviewed at the police station, but he was simply released, saying that there was nothing suspicious about him. When he was released, here is what he said to them.

Lorne Malvo: Did you know the human eye can see more shades of green than any other color?

Gus Grimly: What?

Lorne Malvo: I said, "Did you know that the human eye can see more shades of green than any other color?" My question for you is, why?

Gus Grimly: No, no, no, just h-hold on.

Lorne Malvo: When you figure out the answer to my question, then you'll have the answer to yours.

-- episode 4

In the days when humans lived in the forest, they had to distinguish between natural predators creeping up on them in the thick growth of trees. So in green, it is easy to distinguish other colors (natural enemies) in the mix. The other officers couldn't tell Malvo (natural enemy) from the others, so they let him go. They said.

fox, cabbage, and rabbit.

In Episode9, Malvo tells a story to Lester about a fox, cabbage, and rabbit. the title of episode9 is "A Fox, a Rabbit, and a Cabbage".

This classic riddle is known as the "farmer, fox, rabbit (or sometimes a goat), and cabbage problem." The puzzle goes like this:

A farmer wants to cross a river, taking with him a fox, a rabbit, and a cabbage. However, his boat is tiny and can only carry one passenger along with himself. In his dilemma, he knows he cannot leave the fox alone with the rabbit or the rabbit with the cabbage because the fox would eat the rabbit, or the rabbit would eat the cabbage.

The question is, how does he get all three across the river safely?

Here's the step-by-step solution:

  1. The farmer takes the rabbit (the most dangerous if left with either the fox or the cabbage) across the river and leaves it on the other side.
  2. The farmer then returns alone and takes the fox across the river next.
  3. After depositing the fox on the other side, he takes the rabbit back to the original side (since leaving the fox with the rabbit would be bad as the fox would eat the rabbit).
  4. He then takes the cabbage across to the other side with the fox.
  5. Lastly, he returns alone once again to retrieve the rabbit.

Now, all three — the fox, the rabbit, and the cabbage — are on the other side of the river, safe and sound. Each step ensures that neither the rabbit nor the cabbage is left with its predator.
