Bordered by a river, the painting depicts a sunset landscape with a clear view on the right contrasted with a dark forest on the left.Jan Bos is a leading Dutch landscape painter. He traveled to Italy to study landscapes, a journey that took him straight through the Alps. A wealthy traveler is traveling with his luggage on a mule in the far right, and two painters are in the foreground right, peering into the river or sitting and sketching.
