Title

President Lukashenko, in his 26th term, rigged the 2020 election, declaring himself to have received 80% of the vote. In response, the Belarusian people staged a massive protest. Lukashenko allegedly arrested and tortured protesters. Belarus has become a problem because Belarus tells refugees without Poland's approval that you can go through Belarus, and many refugees illegally try to cross the border with Poland. This is believed to be a political move to deliberately destabilize the border and stir up conflict.

On May 23, 2021, Ryanair Flight 4978 from Athens to Vilnius was ordered by air traffic control authorities to make an emergency landing in Minsk, and the political activist and journalist on the plane, Platasevich, was detained along with several other individuals. European countries view this as a state-sponsored hijacking. Roman Protasevich was a member of the opposition to Alexander Lukashenko's regime, organizing protests and social media groups.
