The first "West Side Story" was an American musical that premiered on Broadway in 1957. It replaced Shakespeare's play "Romeo and Juliet" with the backdrop of a gang war between gangsters (white immigrants and Puerto Rican immigrants) in modern New York City, particularly on the West Side of Manhattan in the 1950s. This film is a remake of that film.
The songs were great and so was the dancing.
